Our Retail Xperts set out to identify purchase influence factors and nuances throughout the consumer journey within the in-store environment. Our research shows that the top 3 influencers of shoppers before they enter retail stores are: the Recommendations of Friends and Family (47%), Reviews (Amazon) (47%), and Social Media (29%). Further, fully 82% of shoppers indicated that their prior research contributed to their ultimate purchase (see graphs below). Given the nature of these influencers informing shoppers’ preferences before they enter a store, analyzing social media positioning around their brand and the number of people talking about the brand and the nature of that dialogue, are critical to developing and executing an effective retail go-to-market strategy.
