Options for Analog Sets

TV sets that receive programming through cable or satellite will not be affected by the transition to digital. However, TV sets that rely on an antenna (set-top or rooftop) to receive a signal will be affected by the cutoff of analog broadcasts in 2009. You will need to consider one of the following options:

Converter Box Makes over-the-air DTV broadcasts viewable on analog sets. Converters are available for $50 to $70 at retail stores. Requires antenna.

Set-top Box Receives digital signals from an antenna, cable or satellite and connects to an analog set. Many offer program guides and other features; buy at retail or lease from provider.
Upgrade Sets A new DTV or HDTV set will receive and display full-resolution digital broadcasts. Best choice; offers all the benefits of Digital TV.
